NHL results, Nov. 29

Scott Hartnell and Sean Couturier provided the offense while Steve Mason stopped all but one shot as host Philadelphia Flyers skated to a 2-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.

Mason turned away 25 shots in the early matinee, including an impressive pad save on Matt Halischuk on a 2-on-1 Jets chance in the second. He improved to 3-0-1 in his career against the Jets (12-12-4).

Hartnell opened the scoring 48 seconds in. "I just shot it as hard as I could," Hartnell said. "I'll take it. It's nice on your first shift, right in the slot there's a little present waiting for you there."

The Flyers (11-12-2) won their fifth straight game at home after dropping their previous two on the road at Florida and Tampa Bay.

"It's huge," Mason said. "Our Florida effort was terrible. Both games were lackluster, so to come home and get a big win before we go on the road for (12) days is a step in the right direction."

Both Flyers goals came off Winnipeg turnovers.

Hartnell's score was the Flyers' lone goal in a dominating opening period in which they outshot the Jets 13-2.

"Morning game, obviously the first period was one where we weren't engaged in the game," Winnipeg coach Claude Noel said. "You don't know what to expect. ... Obviously it wasn't a great situation."

Couturier had a short-handed breakaway opportunity in the first period that Pavelec stopped with a right pad save. But in the second he once again forced a Jets turnover on the penalty kill, this time beating Pavelec on a breakaway for his second goal of the year.

Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron scored third-period goals to lift host Boston. Brad Marchand also scored for the Eastern Conference-leading Bruins, who improved to 9-2-2 in their last 13 games. ... Rick Nash and Ryan McDonagh scored for New York, which completed a five-game road trip 3-2.

Chris Kunitz scored two goals and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 21 shots and Sidney Crosby had assists on all three goals for Pittsburgh, which extended its winning streak in the series to eight games. ... The Penguins halted Tampa Bay's bid to tie a club record with an eighth consecutive triumph on home ice.

Daniel Alfredsson had two goals and an assist, Darren Helm had two goals and Jimmy Howard made 29 saves for visiting Detroit, which got its first regulation victory against New York in a decade. ... Detroit won its third in a row as the reeling Islanders lost their fifth straight. Since beating Boston 3-1 on home on Nov. 2, the Islanders are 2-10.

Dustin Penner had two goals and Saku Koivu had two assists in his long-awaited return to the Anaheim lineup. ... It was the Ducks' 18th win in a row over the Flames at home. The streak is the Ducks' longest against any opponent at Honda Center. Calgary hasn't beaten Anaheim on the road since Jan. 19, 2004.
