College basketball results, Nov. 29

With leading scorer Nik Stauskas out, No. 22 Michigan was looking for an offensive spark against Coppin State. Freshman Zak Irvin admirably filled the role.

The 6-foot-6 Irvin came off the bench to score a game-high 24 points in a 87-45 win Friday, making 9 of 13 shots from the floor, including 6 of 10 from three-point range.

"With Nik being out, we needed somebody to step up today and I think our team was able to do that," Irvin said. "My jumpshot was falling today and my teammates were able to find me open."

Michigan coach John Beilein said he was concerned that missing the sharp-shooting Stauskas - who was resting a sore ankle - would leave a big hole against Coppin State's zone defense.

Keith Appling came off the bench to score 17 points, and Denzel Valentine and Travis Trice added 15 apiece Friday to power the Spartans (7-0) to another November home win. ... Michigan State has won 74 straight games against unranked non-conference opponents at home.

Marcus Smart scored 17 points as the Cowboys (7-0) survived a scare from the Bulldogs ( 5-1) in an Old Spice Classic semifinal in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. ... Butler's Khyle Marshall was fouled with 8.4 seconds remaining, but also missed his free throws.

Mike Moser scored 19 points and Johnathan Loyd had 13 assists, tied with four others for the second-most ever by an Oregon player. ... Oregon (5-0) scored 20 straight points after halftime to break open a close game. Pacific (4-1) led 36-29 after the break, but then went nearly seven minutes without scoring.

: Davante Gardner scored 20 points and had nine rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles (5-1) over the Colonials (5-1) at the Wooden Legacy tournament in Fullerton (Orange County).

Coron Williams scored 15 points and the host Demon Deacons beat the Trojans (4-3) and moved into the fifth-place game of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.

Tricia Liston scored 15 of her 20 points in the first half and added 11 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils (7-0) at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Meighan Simmons scored 32 points, including eight three-pointers, for the Lady Vols (6-0) at the Junkanoo Jam in Freeport, Bahamas.

Alyssa Thomas had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Terrapins (6-1) in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.

Adrianne Thomas scored 23 points as the Sun Devils (5-1) upset the Tar Heels in Cancun, Mexico. ... North Carolina's Diamond DeShields made a bucket to start overtime, but Arizona State (5-2) went on a 9-0 run.

Tori Waldner and Dara Taylor scored the first six points of the second half in a 90-second burst for the visiting Nittany Lions (4-1) won over the Beavers.
