John M. Browning Day Celebration.

The celebration of the birth of John M. Browning -- the founder of the Browning company -- continues throughout the week here in Utah. A few of us from Browning attended the events at the Utah State Capital in Salt Lake City. Salt Lake is about 30 minutes south of Ogden, Utah, where Browning was born and where he designed most of his great firearms inventions.

Below is a quick scan of one story done by the main Utah newspaper covering northern Utah, including the Ogden and Morgan areas. In the story, Loretta Park reviews the events of the day along with comments by attendees. John Browning's Great grandson, Christopher Browning, took part in the event and presented the special 1911-22 to the governor. As part of the John M. Browning celebration, state legislators have the opportunity to buy a commemorative Browning 1911-22. This is the new Browning scaled-down 1911 in 22 LR caliber. The 1911-22 is made at our Utah factory. The same facility where the Browning Buck Mark pistol is made.

Utah Celebrates John M. Browning Day at State Capitol 

Salt Lake City, Utah – Utah celebrated January 24, 2011 as John M. Browning Day at the Utah State Capitol. A native of Ogden, Utah, Browning is widely considered the world’s greatest firearms designer, and many of his gun designs remain popular around the globe to this day.
Hundreds of firearms enthusiasts and history buffs turned out to view the scores of rare, historic and unique Browning firearms displayed in the State Capitol rotunda. Groups participating in the firearm exhibit included the John. M. Browning Firearms Museum, Fort Douglas Military Museum and the Utah Gun Collectors Association.
Utah Governor Gary Herbert made a formal presentation of the official state resolution to Christopher Browning, the great grandson of John M. Browning, at a noon ceremony on the capitol steps. In turn, Christopher Browning presented the Governor with a new Browning 1911-22 rimfire pistol as a gift from the Browning Arms Company to the people of Utah.
Also speaking at the noon ceremony were Rep. Curt Oda (R-Clearfield), Sen. Mark Madsen (R-Lehi), MG Brian Tarbet of the Utah National Guard and Col. Scott Zobrist of the USAF’s 388th Fighter Wing at Hill AFB in Ogden.
A bill by Rep. Carl Wimmer (R-Herriman) designating the John M. Browning-designed 1911 pistol as the Official Utah State Firearm passed out of committee with a favorable recommendation and is now headed for a floor vote in the Utah State House of Representatives.

 

Special re-enactment displays were also part of the day. Shown in this photo is the Browning BAR. The BAR was  first used in World War I. The governor shows off a commemorative Browning Model 1911-22 honoring John M. Browning's contributions to America and to freedom all over the world.
