SINGAPORE - A third man has been sentenced to 12 weeks’ jail for having commercial sex with an underage escort.
Muhammad Sufyan Misbari admitted to paying a 16-year-old escort S$180 for sex in March after seeing an advertisement on a website promoting sexual services.
In pleading for leniency today (June 20), Muhammad Sufyan said the offence was committed unknowingly and admitted to being careless and foolish to be misled by the advertisement. The 31-year-old also said that his case has been reported in the media and that it has been difficult for his family.
The prosecution however pointed out that the accused failed to check the girl’s age and allowed himself to be misled.
District Judge Liew Thiam Leng said in sentencing that due to the nature of the offence, unless there was “exceptional circumstance”, it would be hard to justify a departure from the general sentence of 12 weeks’ imprisonment.
Yesterday, two men pleaded guilty and were handed a 12-week jail term each for having sex with the same underage escort.
They could have been each jailed up to seven years and fined. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
