SINGAPORE - Monthly Concession Pass (MCP) holders will not enjoy a discount under the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) free pre-peak travel trial, which begins on Monday.
Card holders would have paid upfront for their MCP under the scheme, which caps their monthly public transport expenditure.
LTA said that there was no easy way to extend the scheme to MCP holders as it would entail complex changes to the MCP scheme and the fare system.
Moreover, there is already a concessionary element in the MCP scheme, it said.
Those using the passes can choose to travel using stored-value cards if they wish to enjoy the pre-peak free rides or discounts. They will also have to consider their travel patterns and decide on the better option, said LTA.
Commuters who exit at 16 designated city MRT stations before 7.45am will enjoy free train rides under LTA’s free pre-peak travel trial.
Those who exit at these stations between 7.45am and 8am will receive a discount of up to 50 cents off their train fare. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
