NDP rehearsal cancelled due to concerns over air quality

SINGAPORE — The first Combined Rehearsal for this year’s National Day Parade (NDP), which was scheduled to take place at The Float @ Marina Bay today, has been cancelled due to the poor air quality Singapore has been experiencing over the past three days.

In a post on the parade’s Facebook platform NDPeeps yesterday, the organisers announced that the only component of the rehearsal that would proceed as scheduled if the PSI level is in the “acceptable range” is the “in-vehicle practice component” of the Dynamic Defence Display (D3). Civilian participants will also be exempted from training.

In an earlier Facebook post, the organisers had announced that a scaled-down version of the rehearsal would be held, with civilian participants re-located to “indoor air-conditioned facilities for rehearsals”.

The D3 and the Parade and Ceremony (P&C) segments of the parade, which involve mostly military personnel, were also slated to continue as planned if the PSI readings were in the acceptable range.

Earlier this week, D3 Chairman Dinesh Vasu Dash said parade organisers were in discussions regarding the measures that should be taken in the event that “the haze is prolonged and increases beyond a certain point”.

His counterpart P&C Chairman Simon Lee also reassured Singaporeans that the health and safety of parade participants were utmost in their consideration.
