6 out of 7 air purifiers sold in Singapore pass performance test

SINGAPORE - Six out of seven air purifiers sold in Singapore have cleared a performance test by the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE).

The test was to find out if the air purifiers performed to the specifications as stated in their product specifications.

Most purifiers tested were found to be able to reduce total bacteria count and their performance ranges from between 73.5 per cent and 99.39 per cent.

The best performing air purifier for reducing total bacteria count is from Novita while the brand that showed the lowest elimination rate for bacteria count is from Maier.

The elimination rate for total yeast and mould count varied from between 50 per cent and 87.14 per cent.

The Maier air purifier showed the highest elimination rate for yeast and mould count while the lowest elimination rate for yeast and mould count was from Mistral.

The air purifier from Panasonic (model F-PMF35A) was the only one that did not perform as claimed in the advertisement.

It was advertised to be able to inhibit 99 per cent mould, fungus and bacteria but the test results for total bacteria count and total yeast and mould count showed that the elimination rate was less than 99 per cent.

CASE said it has met up and advised Panasonic to either withdraw or amend their claims.

The local consumer watchdog commissioned the test in April this year because of the recent trend of consumers purchasing air purifiers to improve the air quality in their environment.

CASE advises consumers to compare prices and performance of air purifiers between brands before deciding which brand and model to purchase. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
